Core Values

HackYourFuture is more than an education programme. It is a community of trainees , mentors, alumni, and staff working together toward a shared goal: enabling talented junior developers to build sustainable careers in tech.

Our core values guide how we learn, teach, and interact with one another. They shape our expectations, behaviours, and decisions, both within HackYourFuture and beyond. These values are not abstract ideals, but practical principles that have proven effective in education, work, and life.

Respect & Empathy

HackYourFuture is built on respect for people and empathy for their experiences. Many  face complex personal and professional challenges, and not being able to fully use one’s potential can be deeply frustrating. Empathy allows us to understand these realities; respect ensures that we treat each other with dignity, regardless of background, opinion, or role.

Respect and empathy also mean recognising the time and effort of our mentors, who volunteer their expertise, and creating an environment where everyone feels safe to learn, ask questions, and make mistakes.

What this looks like in practice:

• Thank mentors after sessions and respond thoughtfully to feedback
• We formulate feedback in a constructive way, with a focus on practical solutions rather than things we do not enjoy or like. We focus on how we can solve problems, not what the problem is and who caused it. We are considerate about each other’s personal situation
• Support classmates who are going through stressful periods. HackYourFuture is not a competition. When we see that one of our colleagues is having a hard time, we ask them how they are and if we can help
• We speak English in shared spaces to include everyone and practice professional communication. We have quite a few who speak the same native language. Feel free to communicate with each other in your own language. But please do so outside of HackYourFuture. When you are around others , please be kind and try to include everyone by speaking English.
