Online courses

• Google UX Design Certificate (coursera.org/professional-certificates/google-ux-design): a well-known starting point. The course is free, but Coursera charges for the certificate. You can apply for financial aid on their site to get it for free.
• Figma's free tutorials (figma.com/resources/learn-design): hands-on lessons in the design tool most companies actually use. No cost at all.
• freeCodeCamp (freecodecamp.org): free, and has design-related modules if you want to explore where design and building overlap.
• UX Design Roadmap (https://roadmap.sh/ux-design): Step by step guide to becoming a UX Designer with free resources.

Meetups

• Design Thinking Groningen (meetup.com/nl-NL/Design-Thinking-Groningen): free workshops and talks on design thinking and UX methods.

If you're between 18 and 27 years old and living in the Groningen municipality, you can get a free library membership at Forum Groningen, which unlocks free online design courses through their learning platforms. Worth checking out even just for that.

Formal studies

If at some point you want to explore design more seriously, formally, UAF (uaf.nl/en) supports refugee students with guidance and sometimes funding toward further study in the Netherlands, including art and design schools.
